Collar vs harness: Which is best for my dog?

Collar vs harness: Which is best for my dog?

Collars vs harnesses is a question a lot of new puppy owners face, but which is better? Harnesses are all the rage and with many benefits it's not hard to see why. That being said we chose to make our first ever design a collar rather than a harness for a few reasons. Below is my view on why I personally prefer a collar for my furry friend however both are fantastic alternatives and I have no doubt we shall soon have both available!

Less matted fur!

As the owner of a gorgeous shoodle with a double coat let me tell you how easily their coat gets matted! In the cooler months when it can be tempting to let their fur grow out a little more for the extra warmth matting can be a real issue. If their fur becomes too matted most groomers will simply shave it all which is not comfortable for your puppy. We have tried many harnesses for Zeus and his fur simply gets matted far too often which can be extremely uncomfortable for him hence he prefers the collar.

Simplicity and style.

A collar can remain on all the time except for being groomed or bathed. A harness is taken on and off frequently and whilst it can be a quick process its still not something we wanted to do all the time. I also prefer the style of a collar. Its minimalistic and showcases my gorgeous puppy rather than showcasing the fancy design of a harness.

No pull harness can be more comfortable for your pup.

Whilst I personally prefer a collar I know some dogs are far more prone to tugging on their leads than others. Whilst wearing a collar if the dog does pull it can be uncomfortable around their neck. This is something I completely agree with, and if you do have a pup who pulls quite hard whilst going for walks then a harness can be a fantastic option. Whilst I believe it is only a bandaid solution (I think teaching your pup to be walked is always a far better solution) I do see the benefit to it for some furry friends and at the end of the day it is entirely personal preference.

If you want to showcase the gorgeous looks of your furry friend check out our original design, we would love to see more and more pups repping our look!

Have a pawsome day!
